ARRAK “BIRDS” IN BLUE(1967) WOOL MUFFLER

ARRAK “BIRDS” IN BLUE (1967)  is a two-sided unisex wool muffler in military-inspired colours, designed for the autumn-winter season. The design is based on the artwork of renowned Estonian painter Jüri Arrak, The Fight of Centaurs with Lapiths (1972). The muffler’s design is inspired by the artwork of renowned Estonian painter Jüri Arrak, Birds (1967). Original artwork: oil, cardboard, object.

“A man stands at the edge of a bog beneath a great tree, watching the cranes gather before their migration. The man raises his arms like wings, sighs and sits down on a stone. /…/ The joy of flight after stillness, and of landing. The birds are not to blame for being driven to take flight. People are not to blame for being unable to fly. Wings carve steps into the sky, and perhaps human souls can use them to rise upwards, above the clouds and below the heavens. Perhaps, along the celestial staircase, they can draw closer to the truth together with the winged ones?” – Jüri Arrak, “Ilmeti tuuldunud luulest”, Sirp, 20 November 1998.

The muffler helps you to ward off the curse of the cold and humid weather. Woven from the softest blend of virgin wool and cotton. Brushed for the extra softness. Bundle it around your neck or shoulders to feel the wamth of the accessory.

The whole process of production, from the yarn spinning, fabric boiling off or dying, weaving to the stitching of hem, take place in Italy in a small family-owned factory.
