ARRAK “MOSES IN DESERT” (1990) RUG
ARRAK “MOSES IN DESERT” (1990) rug is the textile version of a famous Estonian painter Jüri Arrak’s artwork.
Original artwork: “Moses in desert” (1990), silkscreen print, 37x53cm, private collection.
A copy of this work was given as a present to the Pope Francis during his visit to Estonia in September, 2018 by the president of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid.
“A sense arises in the soul of a traveler that a loop is a stopover on his way, and he begins his journey towards the mountain. The closer he gets, the more excited he gets until finally he notices that there are irregular steps on the side of the hill and the peak disappears into the clouds. The urge to rock climb becomes irresistible, though it works as a never-ending loophole. When climbing from step to step, you have to exert all your strength and use the brush experiences gained on the year-long road. On this mountain of religion and ethics, the days of the traveler’s life end, but reaching to the mountain should be the artist’s most humble goal,” says the painter.
